Messier Catalog » M20 — NGC 6514 Trifid Nebula
Trifid means 'three lobe' and refers to the illusion created by a wispy dark nebula spidering across the face of a more distant emission nebula.
This is a specially framed capture to grab two Messier objects, one of which is a cluster, reflection nebula, emission nebula, and dark nebula all at the same time.
