M24

I experimented with a new set up last night and captured three targets. The second is the region including M16 (the Eagle Nebula), M17 (the Omega Nebula) and M24 (the small Sagittarius star cloud). The camera I used is a Sony Alpha 6300 mirrorless (unmodified) along with a Samyang 135mm manual focus f/2 lens. No telescope

I recently pointed my Samyang 12mm southeast over the glow of downtown Monroe to capture a time lapse from dusk until dawn. The Milky Way even lurks over bright downtown Monroe, if you know how to find it.

The Milky Way viewed from a fire tower lookout
During the trek up a 1-mile, 1,200-foot fire service road to reach the lookout, we encountered thunder (but not lightning), a black bear, storm clouds and more. However, later that evening the skies clear and this happened. After verifying the Milky Way was visible with my 12mm lens, I decided to switch to the 50mm lens.

M24: The Small Sagittarius Cloud
M24 is a Messier object that isn't a deep space target, but instead describes a region of the sky so dense with stars it forms a cloud named the Small Sagittarius Cloud.
